2019 WWBA 15U Prospect Meadows National Championship

13 teams from seven different states will all descend upon the brand new Prospect Meadows baseball complex in Marion, Iowa this weekend to compete in the inaugural WWBA 15U Prospect Meadows National Championship.

A number of teams will be making their Perfect Game debuts this weekend, including a quintet of teams from the Chicagoland area. Cangelosi Sparks White 15U, Chicago White Sox ACE 2022, Elite 15U Premier, Elite Baseball Training 2022-Wilson, and Morris Chiefs 2022 all fall under the Chicago Scouts Association umbrella of teams, and will provide familiar faces of competition for each of those teams.

For as many teams there are competing this weekend that haven’t played at Perfect Game tournaments in the past, a few teams have already put together impressive records in PG events; both MN Icemen 15U Sutterer, out of Blaine, Minn., and Sticks Baseball Academy out of Little Rock, Ark. have put together 3-1 career marks.

It’s easy to see why Sticks Baseball Academy has put together such a good record thus far with the talent that will travel with them to Iowa this weekend. Colton Sims, a third base prospect from Russellville, Ark., is ranked No. 75 overall in the 2022 class and No. 8 among third basemen. He is already an Arkansas commit. Sims has two highly-ranked teammates as well, one just inside the Top-200 for the 2022 class and one just outside. Outfielder Bobby Walker, a Missouri commit, is No. 196 overall in the class and the No. 33 outfielder. Tate Jacobsen, a shortstop from Shawnee, Kan., is the No. 207 prospect in the class.

MN Icemen 15U Sutterer have a pair of Top-1000 players in Aaron Smith and Kyle Law, and six other teams will bring along players that are either high follows or follows on the Perfect Game website.

2019 WWBA 17U South National Championship

The greater Dallas/Fort Worth area will be the site for the 2019 WWBA 17U South National Championship, as 20 teams from the Lone Star State meet up to crown a champion and earn some bragging rights.

A large amount of talent will be spread across the eight field locations this weekend, as six teams bring records better than .500 in past Perfect Game tournaments. Dallas Patriots 2020 Stout has pinned up five wins already in PG events, the most of any team in the South National Championship, and Stix 2020 Cornado is yet to lose a game in a PG event (3-0-1).

On top of those six teams that have already experienced success at PG events, exactly half the field will be playing in their first PG tournament, hoping to join the rank of teams with a better-than-.500 record at such events.

Stix 2020 Davenport will bring a pair of Top-200 players with it this weekend in Yanluis Ortiz and Francisco Hernandez. Ortiz, from Grapevine, Texas, is the No. 6 catcher in the 2020 class and the No. 56 overall prospect. He is committed to play his college baseball at Miami for the Hurricanes. Hernandez, who hails from Laredo, Texas, is the No. 199 prospect in the class and the No. 6 outfielder from the state of Texas. He is committed to Oklahoma State.

No. 295 Jacob Berry, No. 319 Jorge Figueroa, No. 323 Elijah Nunez, No. 479 Homer Bush, and No. 489 Blake Mahmood round out the Top-500 prospects playing in the Dallas/Fort Worth area this weekend, but are only some of the 52 Top-1000 prospects who will be in attendance.

Among those prospects, there have been commitments to schools such as Arizona, Wichita State, TCU, Texas A&M, Houston, Texas Tech, Rice, Dallas Baptist, and other Division I programs.

2019 WWBA 17U Northeast National Championship

Stony Brook University will host the WWBA 17U Northeast National Championship this weekend, as 27 teams from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Connecticut, and Michigan play for a title.

Over half the teams in the crowded field have never been to a Perfect Game tournament before, making for an intriguing mix of teams that have already proven themselves at these events and others that are hungry to do the same.

There are nine teams that have posted winning records at PG events, with three – MVP Beast, Richmond County Nationals 17U Doyle, and Team BEAST 2020 Gibson – collecting five wins in the past. PACOY Dragons Showcase Team, out of Yonkers, N.Y., has a perfect 4-0 record in PG tournaments.

The MVP Beast team that has five wins to its name also has a Top-500 prospect in Bryan Padilla. The shortstop out of Brooklyn, N.Y. is ranked No. 450 in his class and is committed to play at Connecticut after he graduates. Right behind him in the 2020 class rankings is Colin Seeling, a righthanded pitcher for Little Caesars Baseball out of Detroit, is currently uncommitted and ranked No. 460 in the class.

The top prospect at the Northeast National Championship is Harold Coll, a shortstop from Hyde Park, Mass. Coll is the No. 1 player out of his home state and the No. 30 shortstop in the class. He will head to Chapel Hill, N.C. to play for the Tar Heels after he graduates.

Altogether, there are 36 Top-1000 players in the 2020 class heading to Stony Brook this weekend. From that group, there are commitments to schools such as Villanova, Northeastern, Virginia, Stony Brook, Notre Dame, Boston College, and others.
