PA Rebels win NE Super Qualifier

After a long weekend of baseball only two teams remained on Monday in the late afternoon. PA Rebels College Goals took on GSA Gatorz Orange in an exciting championship game that ended with 5-0 Rebels victory in grand fashion.

2021 RHP/IF Cole Hertzler tossed a no-hitter over the Gatorz, showcasing why he won’t be flying under the radar for very long. Hertzler topped out at 89mph with his dominant fastball, and flashed a wipe out curve ball that made him unhittable for the entirety of his performance. Hertzler struck out 12 over his seven innings of work, allowing only one baserunner on the day thanks to a walk.

The Rebels scattered five hits over the course of the game. Hertzler contributed to his own cause with a double to left center. 2020 OF Gabe Mallo recorded a SAC Fly and 2021 UT Zach Smith recorded an RBI double to aid the Rebel’s cause.

For the Gatorz, there was not much to speak of on offense. On the Mound 2022 P/1B Luke Matta allowed three earned runs over five innings, allowing five hits and striking out two.

Hertzler came out firing in the first inning, routinely hitting 88 and 89 mph on the gun and striking out two in the first inning. PA Rebels responded in the bottom of the inning, tacking on one run to jump to an early lead.

After two scoreless innings for both teams, PA Rebels got some traction at the plate in the bottom of the fourth. After two hit by pitches to begin in the half, one run scored on a past ball. After a 2012 C Jake Stasyk RBI single up the middle, and soon after another run came across off the bat of Gabe Mallo, who hit a deep SAC fly to center field.

With Hertlzer continuing to dominate on the mound, the Rebels tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth to all but seal the victory. Hertzler finished out the game in style, striking out two in the last frame to grant the PA Rebels a super qualifier victory.
