FORT MYERS, Fla. – One of the youngest teams in attendance at the 13u BCS National Championships, and all the way from New Hampshire, Legends Prospects have seen more success than anticipated coming down to compete in the Florida heat.

The Legends organization hosts youth baseball leagues ranging from 10u-16u out of Middletown, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Seven of the players rostered on the Prospects wont graduate high school until the spring of 2024, meaning they just completed seventh grade. The other six team members will graduate in the spring of 2023.

However, getting adjusted to the heat has been the least of this teams worries. The Prospects have been challenged throughout this tournament and faced with factors such as limited pitching, but their results are showing otherwise.

After four games in the last two days, the Prospects have seen more success than expected, tallying just one loss to Cannons Baseball Academy 13u America, 8-4. That came after a tie in the opener to New Bern Flames, 2-2, at the 13u BCS National Championship.

The Prospects go into every tournament they play with three basic goals: have fun, progress and win games.

“It’s great experience for the kids and we get to play better teams than we’re used to playing throughout the week and every weekend," said Head Coach Mike Costantino. “I think this tournament has done a good job with getting them exposure over the years.”

The Prospects reached their initial goal of coming out at the top 16, in Friday afternoon’s matchup against SBO AM’9 (8-3). When asked of the teams following goal, it is simply to move forward from here on out.

“Our goal now is to win one game at the next round and get to the top eight and look to make it further from there,” Mike Costantino told PG on Friday.

And that is exactly what this team did on Saturday. A low scoring game against NBA Nationals secured the team a spot in the top eight. Primary Outfielder, Zack Webber (2024, South Hamilton, Mass.) brought his pitching ability to the mound for a complete seven-inning matchup. Webber earned the win that advanced this team allowing only four hits and three walks while striking out six batters. Alexander Clemmey (2023, Middletown, R.I.) led the Prospect’s offense with a double, scoring a run and driving in two, in addition to Cole Mascott’s RBI.

The Prospects have made it halfway through this tournament and are playing with purpose. The team's next matchup is up against Canes Southwest Scrappers on Sunday. Both teams enter with the same record so far in the tournament, and despite the outcome, the Prospects will continue to face Home Plate Chili Dogs 13u Searcy on Monday.
