Todd Coffey
Coastal Fall Championship Scout Notes: Day 1

Pitching was on point today for the Stars Baseball 2021 out of Manassas, VA. In their first game, Kolarov and Yount combined to throw a no hitter this morning.

Connor Kolarov (Chantilly, VA 2021) was unhittable in the early morning game today. The William & Mary commit had the hitters off-balance all game by moving his fastball on all four quadrants with late life on the ball. Kolarov has great tempo going right after the hitter. In the second inning, started a little shaky, but sailed into finishing the game going four plus innings giving up no hits with seven strikeouts.

Britt Yount (Stafford, VA 2021) had a great day off the mound and in the batter’s box. The George Mason commit came in to finish off the no hitter with a power arm blowing the ball by the other team. At the plate, Yount crushed the ball all game and smashed a double in the left center gap. Finishing the day pitching two plus innings giving up no hits, striking out four, and going two for two with two runs scored and a double.

Andrew Tofolo (Voorhees, NJ 2021) worked with a fast tempo and was firing on all cylinders from pitch one. The Rutgers commit was dominant on the mound today commanding his fastball on both sides of the plate while topping 88 MPH. For a change of pace, he was mixing in a breaking ball, which kept the hitters guessing all game. Tofolo had a strike out in every inning finishing the game pitching five innings and only gave up one hit and struck out nine.

Martin Gair (Concord, NC 2021) had a dominating performance today. The UNC-Wilmington commit, who pitches for the South Charlotte Panthers, towers over the hitters with a 6-6 frame and has great downhill action on his fastball that topped 91 and sat 87 MPH. Gair struck out the side in the third inning working around two hits and giving up no runs. Finishing the day going four innings giving up no runs and striking out ten.

Jason Cheifetz (Centreville, VA 2022) with an up-tempo pace was going right after the hitters from pitch one. The right handed pitcher is committed to James Madison and is playing for the MVP Royals national 2021. Cheifetz got into a jam in the top of the fifth inning with two on and no outs, yet he managed to get two weak ground ball outs with a strikeout sandwiched in between to get out of the inning. Finishing the day with a very impressive five innings with only two hits, eight strikeouts, and topping 88 MPH.
