WWBA World Championship Scout Notes: Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 

Power Baseball 2021 took down Team Elite National 4-0 in the first round of the playoffs on Sunday morning. It was a tight 1-0 game until Power Baseball strung together four hits in the bottom of the sixth inning to score three runs. The real highlight of the game was the stellar pitching performance from Isaac Sewell (2022, Clermont, FL). Sewell took a no-hit bid into the seventh inning, but a softly hit flyball would end up dropping to give Team Elite their first and only hit of the game. Sewell threw a complete game shutout, striking out five and walking none against a talented Team Elite lineup. The uncommitted junior would throw just 82 pitches in the game and 69% of them went for strikes. The big 6-foot-2, left-hander sat 81-83 mph and complemented his fastball with a curveball at 76 mph with 11-5 shape. The fastball had arm side run and he did a great job of locating and mixing speeds to keep opposing hitters off balance.




The South Charlotte Panthers edged out the Cangelosi Sparks 2021 Black in a 1-0 ballgame in the first round of the playoffs. Carson Kelly (2021, Sanford, NC) started on the bump for the Panthers, going five innings and giving up just one hit while striking out six opposing hitters. Kelly sat 86-88 mph, touching 89 with a four-mix pitch. The slider was firm at 82 mph with cut action and the curveball provided a nice change of pace at 76 mph. The curveball was his out pitch, and five of his six strikeouts came via the curveball. The North Carolina State commit would even change his arm slot at times to keep hitters guessing. Martin Gair (2021, Concord, NC) came in for the save after Kelly’s exit, throwing two innings with two strikeouts and one hit given up. Gair came out of the pen hot, sitting 93-95 mph in his first inning. He mainly threw fastballs, but he did flash a few curveballs at 76 mph with 11-5 shape and depth. The UNC-Wilmington commit will be a name to watch out for in next year’s draft.
