SANFORD, Fla. – The championship game of the 14U East Spring Opener was a thriller between two elite teams. It came down to the last pitch to decide the winner between 5 Star Jax 14U Hurley and the Florida Heat Baseball 14U squads. It was a back and forth affair that was really only fitting for the dramatic walk-off finish.

Florida Heat Baseball 14U plated the last run in the bottom of the seventh to take home the championship, 6-5.

The Heat went 5-0 on the weekend to take home the title and did it by performing well on all sides of the ball. In the final game, Noah Sheffield (2024, Tampa, Fla.) got the ball to start the game and then finished the game with one powerful swing of the bat. Sheffield went four-plus innings on the mound, scattering five hits and giving up three runs. He did more than enough to maneuver through a talented lineup. The talented two-way prospect hits in the three-hole and added two singles, the last being the walk-off game-winner with two outs in bottom of the last frame. Dominic Woodward (2025, Tampa, Fla.) was stellar during the event and added two hits and a triple during the championship game, getting help from Maximus Mayes (2025, Clearwater, Fla.), who banged a triple as well. The overall athleticism in the lineup coupled with good defense and strike throwers on the mound stood out in a big way during the championship run.

5 Star came into the final game with a perfect 4-0 record themselves. They did it mostly with a relentless offensive attack, scoring in a number of ways, including Jacob Kendall’s (2025, St. Augustine, Fla.) straight steal of home. They continued to hit in the championship game with Cole Rambler (2025, Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) going 3-for-4 with a double. Rambler also starred on the mound, pitching a strong five-plus innings. Carter Freiberg (2025, Smith Station, Ala.) added two hits while Korbin Reynolds (2025, Fort Benning, Ga.) and Easton McMahan (2025, Green Cove Springs, Fla.) both doubled.

Both clubs played extremely well on the weekend and it made perfect sense that it would come down to the team that got the final at-bat. The Heat got that chance and came through to earn the hardware.
