Mid-Atlantic Super 25 Qualifier Scout Notes

With High School season coming to an end across the region, this week’s events gave us a good glimpse of the talent we can expect throughout the summer in the Northeast. While there was plenty of hitters who stood out, the plethora of arms that took the mound over the weekend in all of our locations was absolutely impressive. The talent was equally spread amongst all the age groups, as there was a ton of action filled games throughout the weekend. 

17U Central Pennsylvania Elite Championship: 

Kyle Peters (2023, Drums, Pa.) is a recent commit to the University of Connecticut and the coaching staff in Storrs should be very excited in what they have in the Drums, Pa. native. The strongly built right-hander was quite impressive over the weekend, as he ran his fastball up to 89 mph from a higher three-quarters arm slot with plenty of natural life through the zone. Peters complemented his heavy fastball with a hard biting slider that flashed true swing-and-miss potential when near the zone. The command of the slider wavered at times but the spin profile and athleticism within his delivery lead me to believe he will certainly refine the control aspect of the secondary offering as he matures. The 2023 grad displayed impeccable command over the course of his four innings, as he used all four quadrants effectively to record seven strikeouts. Peters will certainly be a name we continue to monitor over the course of the next two years, as he continues to expand upon his already explosive repertoire. 




We mentioned Wichita State commit Jace Miner (2021, Reynoldsville, Pa.) last week in our scouting recap as the long and lean lefty ran his fastball up to 91 mph at the 17U Super 25 Mid Atlantic Regional. He made another appearance this week as he made a loud statement in the final weeks before the July 11 Major League Draft. Miner came out firing in his semifinal start versus a very talented Northeast Pride National team, sitting 90-94 (T95) mph in the first inning from his typical tough arm slot. He mixed in a varying shaped breaking ball that flashes both vertical and horizontal tilt at times, while also displaying a replicated changeup that has good differential from his fastball and some arm-side fade to it. The operation has some moving parts to it and there is a slight hook on the backside of the arm swing, which can lead to some command issues for the young left-hander. The frame has plenty of projection remaining and could withstand some additional mass to it, so ultimately determining where his velocity may go is still to be determined. Some clubs may put a reliever tag on the Pennsylvania native, but I think there is enough upside and room for improvement for them to give him a shot as a starter long-term first.
