PG Island Games Scout Notes, Recap

Dorodo, Puerto Rico - On Championship Sunday, both games of the semifinals and then the championship game were all decided by a single run. It was a perfect ending to an exciting and competitive weekend in Puerto Rico.

The event came down to extra innings and a walkoff win for the Mets Guaynabo 2025 PR. 
 
The pitching on both sides was outstanding, as the arms combined to strike out 19 hitters and battled out of trouble the entire game, with no pitcher giving an inch. Daniel Andres Rivera (2025, Caguas, P.R.) had an excellent outing for HPWS Travel Ball throwing five-plus innings, giving up just three hits and struck out six. He threw a couple scoreless innings during the extra frames before finally surrendering the winning run via the extra innings bases loaded rules.



Ezequiel Escudero (2025, Toa Alta, P.R.) started the game for HPWS and threw three-plus innings and scattered five hits before handing the ball over.  Santiago Ortiz (2025, Carolina, P.R.) and Geraniel J. Nieves Fontanez (2026, Aguas Buenas, P.R.) were equally as good for the champions as they combined for 10 innings without giving up an earned run. They struck out 12 as they navigated a very talented lineup that they kept at bay.  
 
Both offenses chipped away, trying to scratch and claw to get across the plate. Alan Hernandez Rodriguez (2026, Caguas, P.R.) hit a double and walked for HPWS and played excellent defense up the middle during the entire event. On the other side, Carlos Bermudez (2025, Catano, P.R.) and Gabriel Doel Otero Colon (2025, Guaynabo, P.R.) both had two hits during the championship game for the Mets.

Bermudez delivered the final blow, lifting a ball to the opposite field to drive in the winning run, in dramatic fashion.
