CBU 2026 Scout Team - James entered the 2023 BCS National Championship with a tall task. Following the program posting a 9-2 mark at the 2022 BCS and taking home the title, it would surely be big shoes to fill this time around.

“We felt like the 2025 class last year really made a statement with both of our top teams and certainly wanted to follow in those footsteps this week,” CBU head coach Nick James said.

And not only did CBU repeat as 15U national champions, but utterly dominated over the past six days - posting a 10-0 mark while outscoring its opponents 94-14

“It took a lot of good at-bats,” CBU left fielder Reuben Vasquez said. “A lot of good pitching, especially yesterday where we had three shutouts in a row.”

The 10th and final victory came in 5-3 fashion over R3 2026, with lightning in the area delaying the game for over an hour right when things got underway.

“Fortunately or unfortunately they get used to [lightning delays] a little bit, it's part of the process, it comes with the territory,” James said. “You’re always concerned about your arms staying locked in and how long that rain delay is gonna be and are we gonna be able to bring him back?”

However, the stop didn’t slow down CBU’s offense, tacking on three runs in the bottom half of the first, including an RBI single from Landon Ide - who was also named tournament MVP following the game.

But R3 didn’t go down quietly, cutting the deficit down to two in the top second. But big plays from CBU’s defense kept its lead intact and slowed down any opposing momentum.

“That’s been the story for us all summer and all event long,” James said. “We do a great job picking it, we protect the baseball and we feel like we probably have the best 2026 shortstop in the country in Brandon Lorenzo, who absolutely defends anything there.”

George Cook, Jimmy Huard and Ethan Futch each split time on the mound for CBU, combining for six strikeouts while allowing just four hits.

“All of them bring just a unique mix of everything,” James said. “[Cook] is a great competitor, [Huard] is a big right-handed arm and [Futch] has been clutch for us all year long.”

Heading into the third up 3-1, and back-to-back walks from Dillon Knight and Joseph Lawson put CBU in great position to extend that lead. Heading up to bat with runners on second and third and Nathaniel Roldan didn’t waste any time, raking a first-pitch fastball to drive in both runs.

Despite R3 adding two more in the top of the fifth, the firepower from CBU proved too much down the stretch.

“It’s back-to-back national championships for our organization which we’re super proud of,” James said. “That was certainly a goal to try and get to the championship game and see what happens, so glad to be a part of that.”
