Summer Showdown Crowns Champs

13U  

The Ct Rage 13u faced off against the Georgia Jackets 13u National on Sunday and walked away with a 10-6 championship win. 



Jakob Sweeters started things off on the mound for the Rage pitching four innings striking out two batters, and topping out his fastball at 67 mph alongside a 59 mph curveball. Zack Diiorio and Hudson Kofoed both came in for relief, allowing only two hits combined, with Kofoed striking out two.  

Jackson Greene got things rolling offensively for the Jackets leading off the game with a ground ball single to center field. Although no Jacket’s scored in the bottom of the first, Tucker Markakis stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the second and was able to score Hudson Stanley on a pop to left field, posting the Jackets first run on the board.  

The Rage immediately answered back, with a leadoff double from Jack Meade in the top of the third. Meade, now in scoring position, posted Rage’s first run on the board courtesy of a double to right field from Kofoed. Brooks Fonseca then scored Kofoed on a triple to center, putting the Rage up 2-1. After Fonseca stole home to put the Rage up 3-1, Michael Marino scored on a ground ball from Drew Kane, posting yet another run to the board, the Rage now leading 4-1.  

The Jackets were able to rally back in the bottom of the fourth, scoring three more runs. Jackson Nelson fired a triple to right field, scoring Jack Gorham and Colt Culberson, closing the Rage’s lead to one. Hudson Stanley was able to drive a shot to centerfield, scoring Nelson. Although the Jackets stormed back in the fourth, the Rage was able to post a pair of runs in both the sixth and seventh, clinching the championship win.  


14U  

In a close game, the East Side Aces walked away with a 5-2 win over the Georgia Jackets 14u and the 14u championship title.   

Maddox Corya went 2-for-2 at the plate for the Aces reaching on a bunt down the third baseline and a double to left field. Corya also scored two of the Aces five runs and posted an RBI on the afternoon. Some other notable offensive players for the Aces’ can include Joshua McCall and Devin Krohn who went 1-for-2 and 2-for-3 at the plate, respectively.  

Dylan Walls started on the mound for the Aces and was able to strike out four of the Jackets' batters. Jensen Morneau then came in for relief, allowing zero hits and striking out one.  

After doubling to center, David Bowman scored the Jackets' first run of the game, stealing home in the top of the fourth. Coe Puckett then scored their second and last run of the game, in the top of the sixth off a ground ball from Bowman.     
 

15U

The ATL Lightning 15u Todd stars faced off against the East Cobb Astros in the PG Summer Showdown and it was a summer game to remember, so let's talk about it.

After an error to start the game, the ATL Lightning were able to get things going. Ryan Edwards moved to third on a groundout after attempting to steal second on the pitch. The first run of the game was then scored as he came home on a ground ball.

Both sides played a scoreless second inning, and the Lightning attempted to stretch their lead in the top of the third. Ryan Edwards singled to put runners in scoring position with one on and one out. Sam Heetderks came through with an RBI single to increase the score to 2-0. Following, Edwards scored via a fielder's choice to push the lead.

However, the Astros attempted to reduce the deficit in the bottom of the third. No one was out as the bases were loaded following two walks and a single by Caden Dawson. As soon as James "JD" Aufderheide and Sullivan Reed each hit a sacrifice fly to make it 3-2, the Astros immediately gained momentum in this game.

After the third inning, Matthew Westbrook rediscovered his rhythm and pitched 4 innings without allowing a run. Final stats for Matthew: CG, 4 hits, 2 earned runs, and 3 strikeouts and the Astros rebounded after a big 0 in the top of the fourth.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, he’d finally get run support. Jayson Parker blasted a three-run HR with two on and two outs to ignite the crowd and his team, putting the Astros up 5-3.

When another run was scored via a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the fifth, the lead stretched.

With a run scored and two stolen bases in the bottom of the sixth, Wesley Moering created mayhem to extend the lead 7-3. 


16U

The PG Summer Showdown title game between the Home Plate Chili Dogs 16u and the East Cobb Astros 15u was absolutely wild. The outcome of this game was decided by one play, and neither team conceded an inch. Let's talk about it.

Home Plate scored in the first against John Whitt after a scoreless frame from Benjamin Edge. Cameron Coleman hit a leadoff triple, and Austen Davis followed with a grounder to put the Chili Dogs on the board first.

Thomas Cook, however, leveled the game at one with am RBI single to left field in the top of the second inning following back-to-back walks to begin the frame.

Now we are in the bottom of the third, where the Chili Dogs struck quickly. Parker Wallace took a leadoff walk to get things going. He quickly gained possession of a stolen bag and was in scoring position. After a pitching change, a passed ball, and a walk, the Dogs had runners on second and third with two outs. With a 1-0 count, Wallace scored on another passed ball, giving them a 2-1 advantage.

Unfortunately, this was promptly waived in the top of the fourth for the Chili Dogs. Matthew Sharman attempted to steal a base at the start of the fourth inning and succeeded in doing so just before the tag. He would advance to third on a sacrifice fly before crossing the plate to bring the Astros' second run in.

The performance of Brayden Loquasto and Ryder Register was a major factor for the Astros. Today's explosive combo of Loquasto and Register produced 3.1 innings of scoreless relief work.

We'll pick up where we left off in the top of the seventh, tied at two. This remained until the Astros got their spark back when Wessley Roberson tripled deep down the right field line with one out. (Robert) Vance Bock extended the lead with an RBI triple to increase the margin to 4-2, following a sac fly to take the lead.

"It's a resilient team. We're just getting into our groove now. The 15u Astros now have a new level of talent due to a large number of new players. They enjoy playing as a team", according to head coach Chad Jordan. "Our brand means a lot to us. I've worked for the company for about 30 years, and based on what I've noticed, this summer is going to be interesting. In addition, he said, "I am definitely looking forward to the WWBA."
 

17U  

In Monday’s 17u championship matchup, eXposure 17u National shutout Team 850 17u, 6-0. EXposure cominded for eight hits at the plate and six runs scored. Mycah Jordan got their offensive momentum going with a home run in the bottom of the third, putting eXposure up 1-0. Mason Roderick was then able to score off a line drive single from Nolan Sergeant extending their lead 2-0.  

In the bottom of the fourth eXposure, kept the bats going. Will Orberson led off, reaching on a double to center field. Rex Pendergrass then stepped up to the plate and drove a shot over the fence for a two run homer, extending their lead 4-0. After reaching on a single, Jace Hyde was then knocked in by Roderick, tacking on another run for eXposure.  

The home runs did not stop in the fourth for the squad. In the bottom of the fifth, Ben Timblin sent the first pitch of his at-bat over the fence, extending their lead one last time 6-0.  

Hyde started on the mound for eXposure, allowing zero runs scored. Working consistently in the high 80s, Hyde struck out five batters and walked none. In the top of the sixth Braxton Lewis came in for relief, allowing zero runs scored, striking out one of Team 850’s batters.
