2005 South Top Prospect Showcase
Mohrmann is a 6-6, 215 lb senior right handed pitcher from Colorado with a tall, intimdating build for a pitcher. He has a simple on-line delivery with a high 3/4's to overhand release point that creates very good downward plane to the plate. His arm is pretty loose and works well. Mohrmann touched 88 mph with his fastball and pitched at 84-85 with some occasional running action. He threw a 78-80 mph change up from what looked like a split finger grip. Mohrmann didn't throw a breaking ball but there wasn't any reason with his arm action and mechanics that he shouldn't be able to throw one effectively, especially with the downward angle he's already getting on his pitches. Overall, Mohrmann shows raw pitching skills but good mechanics and very good arm strength. He'd be a great project for a high level college pitching coach and might end up as a 90's guy with a power slider in the future. Mohrmann is also a very good student.
