Sam Mende is a 2008 SS/3B with a 6'2'', 175 lb. frame from Clearwater FL, who attends Clearwater Central HS. He has a big frame and a lean, projectable build. Mende has third base tools but has consistently shown us in games that he's a solid defensive shortstop. He has game smooth hands and moves well laterally for his size and gets rid of the ball cleanly. Mende is a 7.40 runner. At the plate, Mende hits out of a closed, upright stance with a deep load and a strong swing with some lift at the end. Mende is an aggressive hitter with bat speed and does a good job squaring up on the ball and driving it to all fields. He projects very well with the bat for future power gains. Mende is also a good student.
