Taylor Thompson is a 2006 RHP from St. James HS in Montgomery, AL, with a wide shouldered 6'4", 210 lb. frame. He has very good lower body strength. Thompson throws from a full wind up with a high leg raise, long stride to the plate, full arm action, very good extension out front and some overall effort. It looks very difficult for hitters to pick up the ball and right handers especially are in for an uncomfortable at bat between Thompson's delivery and his velocity. Thompson topped out at 93 mph on his fastball with hard running action into right handers. He did a good job throwing strikes and trying to hit locations with his fastball. Thompson's breaking ball and change up are still developing. His curveball was bewteen 75 and 78 mph and was occasionally sharp when everything came together. He can spin the ball well, it's just a matter of consistency in his mechanics and release. His change up showed some promise, too. Thompson is a very good student who has committed to Auburn. He should get plenty of pro attention this spring with his body and present velocity.
