Tyler Stohr is a 2005 from Melbourne, FL, and is a strong bodied 6'2" athlete who is a prospect both as a left handed hitting outfielder, and as a right handed pitcher. Stohr threw 89 mph from the outfield during workouts, which definitely got our attention. He showed a good approach at the plate during batting practice, with some lift in his swing towards the middle of the field and very good bat speed. Stohr tended to dip his back shoulder and swing under balls during game action, but has the basic tools to be pro level as a hitter. On the mound, Stohr throws from a low ¾’s arm slot, but still does a very good job of getting his release point out front. He had very good boring life on his 84-85 mph fastball and pretty much dominated hitters in Fort Myers with this pitch, striking out 7 out of the 10 hitters he faced. The other three batters hit the ball on the ground. Stohr’s curveball had only fair spin at 67 mph and he might be better off with a slider with his release point. Tyler is an excellent prospect and also a very good student.
