LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2006 National Showcase
Victor Sanchez is a 2007 right hand hitting 3rd baseman from Gahr HS, residing in Norwalk, CA. Sanchez has a lean, athletic, projectable build on his 6'1" 175 lb. frame. He has long legs, a high waist and simply looks like the graceful, fluid player he is. Sanchez was ranked #26 among PG National Top 100 position players and performed as well as any player in the showcase. He plays 3rd base, which at this point looks to be the deepest position among the '07 high school position players, particularly in California. That is the only reason he was not an Aflac All-American because his ability and tools are as good as anyone. Sanchez can flat out hit. He has plus hands and and easy swing. He produces lively, hard contact with seemingly minimal effort, hitting all pitches and hitting to all fields. He showed power to the pull side and drove the gaps to the opposite field. Sanchez has plate coverage to handle the outer half and a quick enough bat to react on the inner half. The ball spins off Sanchez's bat, producing easy carry. His approach is quiet and he just seems to move at a different pace than most players. He is the type that controls the pace of the game, which is not usually the case with young players. Actually, the way Sanchez moves in the game is the way Big Leaguers do it. He is a future three-hole hitter at each level, all the way to the Big Leagues. In the field Sanchez has very smooth actions to go with a strong and accurate arm. The feel he shows at the plate and running the bases (yes, he is a plus base runner too, taking hard turns and ready to take an extra base) translates to the field. His footwork is good and his lateral range is good. He makes the play on the slow roller, up the line to the backhand and in the 6-hole. In all phases of the game Sanchez is a polished player. He ran 4.49 home/1st with a 6.94 60 that still has a chance to get better in the coming years. If he keeps going the way he looks like he will, Sanchez would seem to be headed for the upper rounds of the draft. He has verbally committed to the University of San Diego.
