Syler Shepherd is a 2017 C/OF/ RHP with a 5-10 175 lb. frame from Flower Mound, TX who attends Flower Mound HS. Large frame, strong-bodied build with good present physicality. Primary catcher, worked out there in drills, shows good armspeed and arm strength, exploded out of his crouch well, popped as low as a 1.96 in drills. Also worked out in the outfield, was clocked as high as 84 mph there, ball comes out of his hand well, may profile best in the outfield. Good athlete overall, showed solid footspeed, running a 7.04 second 60-yard dash. Right handed hitter, high hands set, aggressive weight shift to frontside. Pull-oriented approach, able to repeat very well and showed ability to match swing plane with the pitch. Good bat speed and hand quickness, solid all-around hitting tools. Also pitches, works to a 3/4's arm slot with drop and drive style mechanics. On-line delivery, fastball up to 79 mph, shows solid sinking action at bottom of zone. Also mixed in a curveball with 11/5 shape and solid spin, can keep hitters honest. Very good student. Named to the National Underclass West Showcase Top Prospect List.
