2006 National Showcase
Philip Gosselin is a 2007 right hand hitting middle infielder from Malvern Prep, residing in West Chester, PA. He has a lean and athletic build on his 6'0" 175 lb. frame. Gosselin has excellent body control and should continue to develop as a top tier player as he gets bigger and stronger. He continually drew positive attention from the entire PG scouting staff as well as every major college coach in the stands and the scouts from his area that were in attendance. When it was all said and done, Gosselin was ranked #22 among PG National Top 100 position players, ranking among the very top middle fielders in the nation. At the plate he hit from an open stance with a high step stride as a timing mechanism. His swing is excellent... free and easy with plus bat control. He was flat and consistently on time through the zone and showed the ability to hit where he was pitched. Gosselin's does have an aggressive swing and his intent is to hit the ball hard to all fields. He seemed to control each at-bat and worked at his pace, not the pitchers. It was almost as if he was baiting the pitcher to throw what he wanted to hit. Gosselin's feel for hitting is advanced and this line-drive, spray hitter is going to keep on getting better and better. He has some present day power and with his ability to square up the barrel at contact, with his body both balanced and behind the ball, expect many extra base hits and home runs in his future. In the middle of the diamond Gosselin also shined. He is a smooth defender with soft, sure hands. He showed excellent fluidity to and through the ball and just played so easy. His release is quick and the ball jumped out of his hand with ease, meaning that he can be off balance and still get off a strong, accurate throw. His raw arm strength is average but it plays much better than that due to his release and exceptoinal baseball clock ticking in his head. To put it simply, Gosselin is a playmaker. He ran 4.36 home/1st and posted a laser timed 6.67 60. He is a top tier D1 prospect and every major program in the nation should have him in their sites. His tools will also play well in pro ball so expect him to get early first day draft consideration. That is a lot of positive stuff written about him, but he is simply that good and will only get better.
