Drew Schmit is a 2016 RHP/ with a 6-0 165 lb. frame from Ames, IA who attends Ames. Athletic frame with solid build. On the mound shows a tight arm slot with a side step, low paced delivery. Hands break early when reaching back to the well. Solid command of fastball at the bottom of the zone ranging in the mid to upper 70's, topped at 78 mph. Aggresive in the zone with fastballs early in the count and uses a slider with 10/4 shape as a put away pitch. Slider generates solid tilt and arm action matches fastball, topped at 71 mph. Flahsed a changed at 68 mph with fading actions and deceptive arm actions. Can mix and max all pitches in the strike zone with command and deception. Right handed hitter with a tall balanced stance. Simple mechanics with quiet actions into contact. Uphill swing with loft that produces fly ball results. Primarily works to pull side and tends to be extended at contact. Worked defensively from the OF. Deliberate actions through transitions and release. Shows a low 3/4 slot that creates some online carry and accuracy, clocked at 80 mph from the OF. Shows athletic actions when under control and balanced through the baseball. Tools should develop with future fluidity. Good Student as well.
