2014 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
Preston Blount is a 2016 RHP/C/MIF with a 6-0 170 lb. frame from Lake St. Louis, MO who attends Timberland HS. Slender young athletic build, lots of room to get stronger. Extremely versatile athlete, looked like he could do virtually everything on the field and gave it a shot over two days. Slow paced leg raise delivery on the mound, long extended arm action that wanders from 3/4's to low 3/4's with lower release on off speed pitches. Fastball to 85 mph with some downhill angle, good running life at times. Threw complete collection of off speed pitches, sweeping curveball with good spin, shorter slider with more power, nice change up with life but tips with lower release point, knuckleball was pretty good with tumble. Left handed hitter, starts open and stays open, swings hard and has some hand quickness and bat speed, aggressiveness tends to make him expand the zone, 7.27 runner with good baserunning instincts. Played all defensive positions, infield looks like his most natural, arm strength plays at all positions, moves well in the infield with sound footwork, charges the ball well, shows his athleticism at all positions though. Versatility at his age very interesting and rare, obviously loves to play the game.
