Nick Pena is a 2019 OF/LHP with a 5-9 150 lb. frame from Riverside, CA who attends John W. North HS. Young, athletic frame who projects well with continued strength and phsyical develop, has room to fill throughout frame. Ran a 7.20 60-yard dash. Primary outfielder, takes short steps to the ball, full and loose arm action, comes out of hand clean and gets on top, comes through it well and projects well with continued incorporation of lower half into release. Also pitched, starts with a leg lift above the belt, steady tempo to hip turn at top of delivery, quick and loose arm action, fastball topped at 71 mph, mostly true in life but has downhill plane. Will occasionally cut the ball. Flashed a curveball with 1-7 shape with sweeping break. Left-handed hitter, starts with a wide and slightly open stance and a high hand and back elbow set. Gets closed at start of swing with a small weight shift into contact, short path to ball with line drive swing plane. Shows some quickness to barrel and feel for it, repeats swing well, contact oriented approach with line drive contact up middle. Good student.
