2017 Pitcher/Catcher Showcase
Nathan Burns is a 2017 RHP/3B with a 6-1 170 lb. frame from West Bend, WI who attends West Bend West. Large frame with a lean, athletic build. Projects to continue to add size and strength while maintaining athleticism. Primary right handed pitcher with smooth side step to leg lift delivery. Stays balanced on back side at gather and drives to the plate with explosive lower half actions. Clean arm circle back at separation and release from a long, loose three-quarters arm slot. Fastball jumps out of hand very well with late running action and sink to both sides of the plate. fastball sat in the upper 80's, topped at 89 miles per hour. Maintains arm speed well with a curveball that showed 10/4 shape with tight rotation and sharp depth. Also flashed a changeup, again maintaining a deceptive arm action that matched fastball offering. Consistently over matched hitters and showed very good command to each edge of the plate with all three pitches. Good student. Committed to Oregon State.
