2016 West Coast Top Prospect Showcase
Jacob Baldauf is a 2017 RHP/OF with a 6-1 185 lb. frame from Los Alamitos, CA who attends Los Alamitos HS. Medium frame with a strong, athletic build. Projects for additional size with strength. Primary right handed pitcher with a short rock step to high leg kick delivery. Gathers well at balance point and stays tall on backside. Keeps weight back well and utilizes lower hail generating good push to the plate. Stays on line throughout delivery and carries momentum through the plate well. Foot lands slightly closed at times, but clears hips well at release. Throws from a three-quarters slot with quick arm speed and a tight arm circle at separation. Created good priding life through the zone with fastball that flashed heavy actions to the plate. Fastball had solid downward plane to the plate with occasional running action in the low to mid 80's, topped at 86 mph. Flashed a curveball with 9/4 shape with tight rotation and good depth down in the zone while maintaining arm speed. Also worked out defensively form the outfield showing smooth paced actions while closing to the baseball. Clean glove actions while funneling the baseball and working through transition. Long, loose arm action at release. Ball jumped out of hand well topping at 85 mph and creating good on line carry to the bag. Right handed hitter with a spread, balanced stance. Works to front side and aggressively attacks the baseball out front. Primarily showed a mid-field approach with good strength and jump to the gaps when squaring contact. Controlled the barrel well throughout the zone and flashed the ability to work to all fields as well. Named to the 2016 West Coast Top Prospect Showcase, Top Prospect List.
