Austin Savary is a 2017 LHP/ with a 6-4 190 lb. frame from Dubuque, IA who attends Wahlert. Large frame with long limbs and a lean, athletic build. Projects for additional strength. Ran a 7.19 sixty yard dash. Primary left handed pitcher with a simple side step to leg lift delivery. Stays tall on back side while creating torque over back leg. Utlizies lower half well with drop and drive actions to the plate. Front foot lands at a slightly closed position, but is able to clear hips with ease and carry momentum to plate. Creates a deep arm circle back at separation and releases from a high three-quarters slot. Fastball has good downward action to the plate with occasional running action to arm side, topped at 80 mph. Curveball had 1/7 shape with good spin and depth when located down in the zone. Also flashed a changeup in the low 70's with solid fading action with run. Maintained arm speed with changeup offering often getting hitter out front and inducing weak contact. Effectively filled the strike zone with developing command while spotting up on the edges of the plate. Also worked out defensively from the outfield and first base. From the outfield shows deliberate footwork while closing to the baseball. Clean glove actions with developing fluidity through exchange. Creates front side coil while building to a three-quarters arm slot. Topped at 80 mph from the outfield generating some on line carry to the bag with accuracy. From first base shows clean glove actions while funneling from a deeper position with smooth paced exchanges while working through transfer. Topped at 79 mph to the bag creating some carry with accuracy. Right handed hitter with a spread, slightly open stance. Lower half launches to contact with rotational actions creating minimal shift. Compact, direct path to contact with a line drive swing plane through extension that occasionally flashed some leverage. Primarily used a mid-field approach and showed good jump off the barrel when squaring up baseball between the outfield gaps. Very good student. Tools with continue to develop with mechanical refinement and maturity.
