Matt Ramsey is a 2008 C/P/OF with a 5'11'', 180 lb. frame from Knoxville, TN who attends Farragut HS. Ramsey has a short, stocky frame with very good present strength. He is an excellent two-way prospect, although the more scouts see him behind the plate the more they like him at that position. Ramsey has played lots of outfield in the past as well. Despite his stocky build, Ramsey is a 6.81 runner and has outstanding quickness and energy behind the plate. His blocking skills are above average. Ramsey's arm strength ranks among the best in the class and his quickness gives him incredible game pop times; we got him in 1.85 and 1.87 IN GAMES on the bag. With the bat, Ramsey has a simple, compact swing and does a good job staying inside the ball and letting it travel to him. He has enough strength to get the ball out into the gaps and use his speed to create some extra base hits. Ramsey was up to 90 mph on the mound in Cincinnati and we've seen him up to 92 in the past. He has a sharp slider and knows how to pitch. But Ramsey's future is clearly behind the plate. He reminds some scouts of a Russell Martin type of player.
