2007 Rising Juniors National Showcase
Dillon Vitale is a 2009 C/P with a 6'1'', 215 lb. frame from Punta Gorda, FL who attends Charlotte HS. He is a good young prospect with big things ahead of him, particularly if he can get in better physical shape. Vitale has a large frame, husky build and does have strength and good ability. Some might be turned off by his body and that would be a shame because he is a really good player. He performed well with the bat and also showed promise behind the plate. Again, the better his body is the better his level of play will be. Vitale's hitting approach and swing are really good. His hands work quite well. His barrel stays behind his hands nicely and allows him to square up on-time at contact. He hits to all fields and showed us some extra base hit power that will continue to evolve. Defensively he flashed feel and game savvy behind the plate, with efficient catch/throw skills, including a decent transfer and good footwork. Vitale plays hard and likes the game. On the mound he showed a pretty loose arm on mound and a good delivery. His low-80s fastball could gain some more velocity. He also has a big rolling curveball that he kept down in the zone. Vitale is a solid student and a good baseball player. If he works hard enough on his body, Vitale has a chance to be an outstanding college player, with a future beyond the college game.
