James Triantos is a 2022 SS/RHP with a 6-0 180 lb. frame from McLean, VA who attends St. Johns College. Medium, athletic frame with square shoulders and present physical strength proportioned throughout. Ran a 7.08 60-yard dash. Primary shortstop, athleticism plays in actions and shows balance on the charge, extra step through release, quick arm through the back and shows strength and carry on throws across the diamond, ball comes out well with effort at release, fields the ball out front and shows accuracy. Two-way potential, similar quick arm through the backside and generates solid plane from an over-the-top release; fastball topped out at 89 mph, mostly true in life with angle out of hand and ability to work to either side. Tunnels curveball well up to 76 mph with 12-6 shape and late biting life, flashed a firm changeup at 81 mph that proved effective against lefthanded hitters. Lefthanded hitter, begins with a spread stance and a high hand set and lower back elbow in the box. Keeps hands inside the ball and shows a fast bat path, barrel stays in the zone well. Shows carry to the gaps with a linear stroke, consistent in getting the barrel to ball with occasional whip, projects well. Excellent student. Verbal commitment to North Carolina.
