D.J. LeMahieu is a 2007 right hand hitting shortstop/3rd baseman from Brother Rice HS, residing in Bloomfield Hills, MI. LeMahieu has a long, rangy, athletic build on a plus 6'4" 185 lb. frame that has an awful lot of room to fill out. He is one of the more exciting players to watch and then consider his future because he is so good now, but has so much development ahead of him. LeMahieu was ranked #15 among PG National Top 100 position players and when it is all said and done in a number of years from now, he could be one of the best from what looks to be a stellar '07 high school position player class. Nothing that LeMahieu does takes a lot of effort. At the plate he can hit, simple. His hands are alive and he easily gets his swing underway. His hands fly from their starting position and fly through the hitting zone, accelerating through contact. His feel for hitting is advanced for a young player. LeMahieu not only has natural hitting instincts and ability, he has a technically sound swing, keeping his hands inside the ball and staying long through in the zone. He produces easy power and uses the whole field. He showed the ability to hit all pitches and just looks like he is an offensive monster waiting to happen. LeMahieu has as good a chance to be three hole in the Big Leagues someday as any player in the '07 class. On defense he is a primary shortstop and many already want to move him to 3rd base, but he can stay at short for awhile longer. He goes to and through the ball well and has good feet. His arm is a plus and his release is quick. He will be a plus defensive 3rd baseman, but can also be a solid average shortstop, providing corner position type power. If he gets to be 6'4" 230, then he probably has to move. LeMahieu ran 4.59 home/1st with a respectable 7.15 60 yard time. He is one of the top high school draft prospects and likely has had his pick of a D1 program to attend.
