Johnny Cook is a 2018 C/RHP/3B with a 6-1 165 lb. frame from Summerville, SC who attends Summerville HS. Large frame with a lean, athletic build. Projects for additional strength while maintaining athleticism. Ran a 7.70 sixty-yard dash. Primary catcher, low set with good hip flexion while setting up to receive. Soft hands while receiving baseball with ability to stick pitches to each edge of the plate. Gains ground well while working out of crouch with clean glove to hand exchanges. Compact arm action at release that created good carry to the bag at 74 miles per hour. Best workout pop time of 1.95. Right handed hitter with an upright, even stance and simple leg lift trigger. Lower half shows rotational actions to contact. Loose, line drive swing plane through extension and showed good barrel to ball skills. Primarily worked with a gap to gap approach, but has the barrel skills to work to all fields. Also pitched using a short rock step delivery to waist high leg kick. Stays balanced and tall on back side at gather and strides to a slightly closed front side position. Hides the baseball well prior to releasing from an extended, low three-quarters arm slot. Challenged hitters with a fastball that showed good life through the zone with slight sink and arm side run, topped at 81 miles per hour. Curveball has 9/4 shape with some depth and sweeping action to glove side at 65 miles per hour. Also flashed a changeup that had similar arm speed and movement to fastball offering. Good presence while on the mound and consistently changed speeds and kept hitter off balance. Good student.
