2006 Southeast Top Prospect Showcase
Jake Tanis is a 2008 MIF/OF/P/SS with a 6'1'', 165 lb. frame from Peachtree City GA, who attends McIntosh HS. He has an athletic, projectable body with some present strength and the chance to get stronger. Tanis showed very good defensive skills at third base. He has a good first step and fields the ball smoothly with very good balance. He showed his arm strength when he needed it. Tanis's actions at shortstop were more piece by piece and tentative and he looked much more comfortable at the corner. Offensively, Tanis has a busy load and generates good raw bat speed. His swing is a bit long but he gets very good extension through the ball and shows power potential. A calmer approach will give him better consistency. Tanis also pitched a bit, throwing a 81 mph fastball with a 68 mph curveball. We really like Tanis's approach to the game, he showed very good hustle on the field and lots of game awareness for a young player. He's very projectable physically and should be followed closely. He is also a good student.
