Jacob Phillips is a 2020 LHP/OF with a 5-10 140 lb. frame from Belleview, FL who attends Forest. Phillips has a smaller frame with a lean wiry build. He pitches from a 3/4 arm slot with a clean arm action. Phillips gets closed at balance point and has some hip tilt down the mound. He creates hip/shoulder separation and his lower half works well in his delivery. He has some recoil to his arm and has some arm speed. Phillips has an idea of what he's doing and pitches with lower effort. He locates his fastball to his arm side well and repeats his delivery. Phillips gets some sink on his change up and throws a 2/8 slurve. He showed pitchability and is an interesting follow on the mound as he grows and gets stronger. Phillips showed solid actions in the outfield and could really improve out there by speeding up his tempo to and through the ball. At the plate he starts with a slightly open stance with high hands and high back elbow. He has a longer path to contact and made line drive contact. Very good student.
