2017 Midwest Underclass Showcase
Erik McKnight is a 2019 RHP/C, OF with a 6-2 185 lb. frame from Littleton, CO who attends Heritage. Large frame with long limbs and an athletic build. Frame projects to support additional size with strength. Ran a 7.00 sixty-yard dash. Primary right handed pitcher with a simple side step to medium leg lift delivery. Stays tall with slightly coil over back leg at gather. Utilized drop and drive actions while working to the plate and carried momentum to target well. Loose arm circle at take back and released from a there-quarters slot. Fastball flashed heavy actions through the zone with some run to arm side in the low to mid 80's, topped at 86 miles per hour. Curveball had 10/5 shape with solid spin and good depth in the mid 70's. Maintains arm speed with a changeup offering that showed quality sink to the bottom of the zone in the upper 70's. Showed good feel for all three pitches and consistently worked to the outside edge of the plate. Over match hitters and induced weak contact throughout each inning of work. Also worked out defensively from the outfield showing smooth paced, deliberated footwork while closing to the baseball. Funnels baseball off to side and worked through exchange quickly. Long arm circle at separation and released from a loose three-quarters slot. Throws produced accurate, on line carry to the bag topping at 86 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with an upright, even stance and simple leg lift trigger. Shifts into contact with linear lower half actions. Smooth hand path to baseball with a slightly lifted barrel plane through extension. Swung with intent but maintaining fluidity through finish. Primarily utilized a mid field approach but flashed the bat speed t turn the barrel and work to pull side with authority. Good student. Named to the 2017 Midwest Underclass Showcase, Top Prospect List.
