Carter Schmitz is a 2018 RHP/3B with a 6-2 170 lb. frame from Queen Creek, AZ who attends Queen Creek. Large frame with a lean, athletic build. Frame projects to support additional size with strength. Primary right handed pitcher with a simple side step to medium leg lift delivery. Stays balanced at gather and works to the plate with drop and drive actions. Long arm circle at take back and released from a three-quarters slot. Fastball came out of hand clean generating some running action to arm side, topped at 82 miles per hour. Attacked hitters early in counts before changing speeds with a shorter slider in the low 70's. Consistently worked down in the strike zone and induced weak contact throughout each inning of work. Right handed hitter with a spread, even stance and simple toe tap trigger. Works to contact on a loose, extended path with a slightly lifted plane through extension. Primary worked to the middle of the field with the ability to drive the gaps when squared. Outstanding student.
