Trevor Bateson is a 2018 SS/RHP with a 6-0 160 lb. frame from Menifee, CA who attends Paloma Valley. Medium frame with a lean, athletic build. Frame projects to support additional size and strength. Ran a 7.19 sixty yard dash. Primary shortstop with clean glove actions when funneling the baseball out front with solid fluidity throughout transition. Flashed good range to each side with solid first step quickness. Topped at 76 miles per hour across the infield from a loose arm action. Throws created softer carry with accuracy to the bag. Also worked out defensively from the outfield showing athletic, fundamental footwork while closing to the baseball. Quick exchanges while working through transition and gets the baseball out quickly. Released from a three-quarters arm slot that generated good on line carry to the bag, topped at 80 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with a spread, slightly open stance and high back elbow set. Hands load to a deep position creating a slightly barred position. Lower half launches while rotational actions while hands fire on an extended, loose path to contact. Flashed solid barrel skills with the ability to work the baseball to all fields. When on time, shows the strength and carry to drive the ball through the outfield gaps. Also pitched showing a full overhead delivery to medium leg kick. Smooth paced tempo and stays tall on back side at gather. Released with high energy actions from a high three-quarters arm slot. Fastball jumps out of hand well producing some running action between 79-81 miles per hour. Curveball has 11/5 shape with tight rotation and solid depth. Developed better feel for curveball offering late and generated sharp, late break. Also showed a slider with 9/4 shape that had looser spin and good sweeping tilt to glove side. Consistently pounded the bottom of the strike zone with all three pitches while missing barrels and inducing weak contact. Very good student as well.
