Brenden Vern is a 2020 SS/RHP/IF with a 5-10 175 lb. frame from Lakeland, FL who attends George W. Jenkins HS. Medium frame with a strong and athletic build and room to add. Ran a 6.97 60-yard dash. Primary shortstop. Quick first step and moves well both in and laterally. Fields the ball out front with soft hands and funnels to the body. Clean exchange getting the ball out quickly with good footwork throughout actions. Throws are on a line with good accuracy. Strong carry to the bag topping out at 86 miles per hour. Righthanded hitter with a slightly open and balanced stance. Utilizes a big leg lift trigger for timing. Strong and quick hands to the ball. Generates natural leverage out front and can get a lot of jump off the barrel when squared. Makes loud contact and can drive the ball to all fields. Repeats mechanics well and is able to stay on time consistently. Righthanded pitcher with a quick tempo delivery. High and tucked leg kick and drives off the backside when coming to the plate. Releases from a high three-quarters arm slot and gets good extension through the pitch. Fast and smooth arm action. Generates downhill plane with heavy life on the fastball that sat in the low 80's and topped out at 84 miles per hour. Mixed in a hard 11/5 curveball in the low 70's. Stays around the plate with both pitches. Potential for an increase in velocity down the line. Very good student as well.
