2006 California Underclass
Kirk Wetmore is a 2007 LHP/OF from Tahoma HS, residing in Maple Valley, WA, with a 6'1" 175 lb. frame. Has an athletic frame, a decent pitcher's body that is well-proportioned. Pitches from a 3/4 slot and his arm works. Has solid mechanics and looks like there is more in there as he continues to develop. Showed good arm side run on 80-82 mph FB and he was aggressive with that pitch. Also had good down tilt on his 72 mph CB that had 2/8 shape. Wetmore threw his CB for strikes and stayed within himself with pitch. Simply put, he used it effectively without trying to do too much with it. On offense Wetmore showed a decent hack. He has a soft front side and decent hands. Got his arms to decent extension and showed good balance in the swing. He has decent bat speed and a chance to hit. Could stand to fight a little longer against his front side, providing more umph at contact. Wetmore is a spray/contact hitter who used the opposite field well. From the OF the ball exited his hand decently and he showed good hands. Has a long arm stroke and made a good approach to the ball, though a little more body control would help. Overall he is a pretty decent defensive player. Wetmore's upside is best on the mound but he does have some potential as a two-way player at the small college level.
