2019 Uncommitted Main Event Showcase (2020 Grads)
Max Merlan is a 2020 OF/RHP with a 6-2 200 lb. frame from Chula Vista, CA who attends Foothills Christian. Large frame with physicality at present. Recorded a 7.41 second 60-yard dash. Primary outfielder, worked out in the outfield with longer strides to the ball and a longer transfer, quick arm action with strength and carry on throws that stay low and on line. Secondary right-handed pitcher, mechanical delivery, small rocker step to an above the waist leg lift, slight hip turn at the top but maintains direction to the plate, works very downhill, small arm circle in the back to an over-the-top arm slot, extends well through release, pitches off the fastball and stays in the zone with it, flashed feel for a big breaking curveball of 11-to-5 shape, tight spin and good depth. Right-handed hitter, sets up with a wide base, high intensity swing, shows juice in the bat with a power approach to the pull side, ball comes off very well with good bat speed and strength at contact. Good student. Named to 2019 Uncommitted Main Event Showcase Top Prospect List.
