Chris Joyce is a 2008 LHP/1B with a 6'0'', 190 lb. frame from Goleta CA, who attends Dos Pueblos HS. Selected as a Top Prospect at this event. Joyce has a sturdy build on a strong, thick frame. It would seem likely that Joyce will continue to throw harder but regardless, he can really pitch. He has excellent feel for the baseball, has an easy arm action, and pitches with good tempo. His three pitch mix includes a fastball, curveball and a change-up and he commands all three well. Joyce's fastball (83-86 mph) moves a lot, with good down angle and some sink. He is going to succeed as a ground ball pitcher but he also showed the ability to elevate the fastball. His curveball (73-74 mph) is thrown with good arm speed and has late downer action. It is a legitiamte swing and miss pitch that also can lock up hitters on occasion with the late action. Joyce's change-up is a third starter quality offering, with some sink and thrown with feel. He looks to be a future weekend starter at the D1 level, sooner rather than later. Though he is likely to only pitch in college and beyond, Joyce does swing the bat really well. He has some bat speed and drives the ball with some spin and carry. West Coast D1 programs should be on him hard, as he is not likely to get strong draft interest out of high school, but should after three years of college.
