2022 Florida Prospect Showcase
Michael Halfpenny is a 2024 LHP/1B/OF with a 5-11 155 lb. frame from Land O Lakes, FL who attends Land O Lakes. Larger frame with a medium build with room to keep adding strength into the frame. Has broad shoulders to his frame as well. Ran a 7.81 60-yard dash. A primary left-handed pitcher with a leg lift to the core, landing slightly open, with a medium arm action. Throws from a low-three-quarters arm slot. His fastball was 77-80 mph creating some angle to it. Overall had a tough slot and created some deceptive angles to fool hitters. His breaking ball had good shape to it, going to it often with good feel for the spin. Would backdoor left-handed hitters with the curveball and missed barrels. Mixed in the occasional changeup as well. Overall missed bats and picked up seven strikeouts over his three-inning outing. A left-handed hitter with a narrow base, high hands, and high back elbow. He drifts back into his load and then strides through the zone. Got his hands to the ball and was able to work pull-side during his round of BP. Also worked the middle of the field. Worked out as an outfielder using a quick turn & fire attack. Throws from a higher slot, getting through it with choppy steps, gathering, and throwing uphill with some carry. Also worked out at first base, getting throws out fine around 76 mph, keeping the throws accurate and on target. Good student.
