Benjamin Carr is a 2009 C/P/IF/OF with a 6'3'', 185 lb. frame from Ellenwood, GA who attends Stockbridge HS. He has a lean, long limbed build with a high waist and projectable strength. He showed very good raw arm strength behind the plate, although his throwing motion is long and multi-part, not what you like to see on a catcher. Carr's best pop time was 2.25, indicative of his long release. He received the ball well in games and knows how to frame pitches and moves athletically behing the plate, so he has defensive skills to work with. Carr's arm strength didn't translate to the mound, as he topped out at 77 mph on his fastball with a rolling 64 mph curveball. Offensively, Carr hits out of a spread stance with a very high back elbow. He has hand quickness and whippy bat speed, although his back elbow causes his hands to long to the ball. He turned on the ball aggressively and made solid pull contact. His bat could be a plus as a catcher with a few adjustments. Carr has nice tools to develop and a projectable body. Follow.
