Grant Hurn is a 2017 RHP/1B with a 6-2 195 lb. frame from Cedar Park, TX who attends Round Rock High School. Large, athletic frame with square shoulders and long limbs, lean and projectable build with room to fill, already shows nice present strength to lower half. Ran a 7.09 60-yard dash. Primary righthanded pitcher, begins with a rock step into delivery with a hip coil at the top, short stride down the mound and lands closed, creates some deception and hides the ball well with a medium arm stroke working to a three-quarters slot. Lands balanced and nice pace to over delivery, works across body and able to generate cut action to fastball when on top and located to glove side, topped out at 82 mph, occasional angle to the lower third of strike zone. Changeup was go-to offering with two strikes and served as a swing-and-miss pitch up to 74 mph with fading life to the arm side. Pivots well off the first base bag, shows quickness to short arm action on throws across the diamond, accurate to the bag with some effort at release. Righthanded hitter, begins with a wide base and a high hand set and back elbow in the box. Lowers hands at start of swing, good path to the ball and looks to create lift out front. Short and tight swing, keeps hands in throughout, uses physical strength well to create carry off of the barrel, consistent contact to the middle of the field. Excellent student.
