Raymond Melo is a 2023 SS/2B with a 5-5 135 lb. frame from Boston, MA who attends Boston Community Leadership Academy. Young, square shouldered frame with a lean build and room to fill throughout and develop moving forward. Ran a 7.05 60-yard dash. Primary shortstop, sound footwork in the dirt and repeats well with proper angles to ball, clean actions to the backhand, shows range and the ability to change release points, repeats well and shows nice accuracy across the diamond, arm strength will keep developing. Switch-hitter, begins with an open stance and a high hand set and back elbow a the plate from the right side; hover leg lift trigger for timing, looks to lift at the point of contact, shifts weight well moving into contact, stays compact with path through the zone and shows present hand speed. Wide and open stance from left side, gets rotational with swing and works on a linear path, shows fluidity to swing and connects for consistent line drive contact.
