Rex Thompson is a 2027 OF/RHP with a 6-0 160 lb. frame from Scotts Valley, CA who attends Scotts Valley. Features a proportional athletic frame with some projection. Ran a 7.48 60-yd dash. In the OF, he showed solid defensive actions working low to the ground with a glove that flipped over late at times. His arm action showed length out the glove with some easy strength at release running it up to 84 where throws were accurate 1-hops to the bag. At the plate, he sits in a balanced stance and uses a simple forward stride with no negative move. Hands pop back creating some separation and loading the barrel into a quality launch position. Hands/barrel show present quickness and bat speed where he turned the barrel on a slight uphill path with consistent contact out front. There’s noticeable strength at impact where he pounded several deep to the LF wall. On the mound, he operates exclusively from the stretch using a simple delivery. Uses a smaller lift that works right down the mound. Arm is longer out the glove and to release with easy armspeed at a lower ¾ slot. More of an east/west mover into landing. His fastball was up to 79 showing some natural armside run. Mixed in a developing slurvy breaking ball in the upper 60s. Named to Top Prospects List.
