Donte Bean is a 2006 outfielder from Rowlett, TX with a very athletic build that shows core strength at 5-10, 175 lbs. Bean's tool is his speed and he can fly. He ran a 6.32 in the 60 and shows excellent range in the outfield. We understand that Bean does run track, too, and we can understand why. His range is a big defensive plus and he has quick release in the outfield with good accuracy on his throws. Offensively, Bean has a simple, balanced stance with a short swing that he chokes up some on. He has little lower half involvement in his swing, although he has the strength to create bat speed and drive the ball hard should he develop that hitting style. It looks like a coach at a young age saw his speed and worked with him on a simple contact swing, but we feel that Bean has advanced beyond that. He is a potential high ceiling and well rounded offensive player in the Marquis Grissom mold if he can make some adjustments with the bat to use his raw physical tools. Keep a very close eye on him for future adjustments, as Bean is a highest level athlete.
