Dustin Leonard -- Leonard is a freshman catcher from Florida with a projectable body and good strength for his age. He has some bat speed now but some mechanical issues keep him from using it most effectively with wood. Leonard hits from a wide stance with high hands and no stride. His first movement is to collapse his back leg, creating a long upper cut swing that doesn’t stay on the plane of the ball for very long. Leonard has plenty of time to start making adjustments. Defensively, Leonard looked advanced for his age. He had good receiving actions and showed good arm strength and very good pop times for a 15 year old. Leonard will also have to work on his overall speed a bit, but that should improve with age. Dustin is a good student. Keep an eye on this young catcher.
