Nickles is a projectable RHP with a lanky 6'2/160 good body. He has a chance to gain a lot of strength and increase his velocity. In Ft Myers he showed a 79 mph fastball and a 65 mph curveball. We were told he had recently changed his arm slot from the side to 3/4. Our suggestion would be to go back to the side. Sidearm gives much more movement and deception. 79 from the side can be unhittable at times. 79 at 3/4 or higher won't create much interest from college recruiters or scouts. Hopefully he will either return to his natural slot or improve his velocity a bunch from the new slot. Some pitchers actually throw harder with better command from the lower angle. If Nickles is one of those, he's robbing himself on all ends. More movement, more velocity and better command are three very good reasons to change arm angles.
