Joaquin Maldonado is a 2026 C/RHP/IF with a 5-10 160 lb. frame from Lubbock, TX who attends Monterey. Primary catcher with a medium wiry frame and solid projection down the line. Ran a 7.51 second sixty. Showed actions behind the plate to build on moving forward. Does a nice job getting the ball out of the glove on time making accurate throws with more strength to come adding to his arm strength and polish behind the dish. Recorded a 2.00 second pop time. Presents the glove well out front funneling cleanly to the midline and gaining ground with an on time release to make accurate throws with young arm strength. Starts with a small side step pitching out of the middle of the rubber with a belt high leg lift. Arm works long through the back to a high three-quarters arm slot staying on line and connected throughout. Fastball sat in the mid 70’s topping out at 78 mph. Paired the fastball with two breaking balls showing a two plane curveball as well as a slider with more true horizontal bite. Right-handed hitter starts with an upright stance and the hands wrapped creating separation. No stride into contact staying simple pre swing. Bat path gets steeper into contact working to the inner half of the ball creating most of the impact to the opposite field. Very good student.

Swing Efficiency™
Swing Efficiency™ is a score from 0-100 based on how fast you move your body compared to other players of a similar height and weight. Our library of over 10,000 hitters shows that for a given body type, higher swing efficiencies generate higher exit velos. PG All-American Arjun Nimmala may only weigh 170 lbs, but he can still hit 103MPH off a tee thanks to his elite Swing Efficiency™.
