2005 Atlantic Coast Top Prospect Showcase
Holt is a 6-2, 185 lb junior third baseman from North Carolina who showed top prospect tools on the mound as well. Holt has good present maturity and strength in his 6-2 frame but plenty of room to get stronger. He's a very good defensive third baseman with good balance, range to both sides and a very strong arm that registered 85 mph in infield drills. Holt's best tools are with the bat, though. He generates very good bat speed from a simple, balanced approach that doesn't waste much movement. Holt is a pull hitter from the right side who is going to hit a lot of home runs. During the games he made hard line drive contact but he has some lift in his swing that he showed during batting practice. Hitting looks like it's really easy to Holt, even with a wood bat against good pitching. On the mound, Holt threw 85-87 mph with some effort at release. His 73-74 mph curveball had very tight spin and bite to it. Holt works quickly and pitches aggressively. Holt's overall approach to the game is just like his hitting style; very calm and balanced. He's a high ceiling player with a wide range of very good tools. National level follow. Holt is also a good student.
