Nichols is a 5-10, 165 lb shortstop from Virginia. He ran the 60 in 7.35 and showed good game quickness in the field and on the bases. Nichols threw 81 mph during infield drills with nice carry. He tends to lay back on balls at shortstop and trust his arm strength but has solid overall tools in the middle infield. Nichols hits from an open to closed approach at the plate and has some raw bat speed. He can handle the bat head on different types of pitches and the ball jumps off his bat with some gap to gap power. Nichols also showed some promise on the mound. He has long arms for his height and has a loose, easy arm stroke with good acceleration and arm speed. Nichols fastball was 80-82 mph and it looked like he should be throwing harder. Both Nichol's secondary pitches had good quality to them. His 68 mph curveball had a big, deceptive break and his change up had nice deception. Nichols showed a good understanding of how to pitch and get outs and should be followed at this position as well.
