2004 Underclass National Showcase
James Hone -- Hone is a thick bodied junior third baseman from Florida with the short arms and good hand strength that so many good college hitters have. Hone looks like he could be one of them in the future. He was a line drive machine in games, going 4-6 at the plate and hitting the ball hard to all fields with a compact, line drive swing. Hone doesn’t get much load or lower body involvement in his swing, so there’s the potential there for him to improve even more with the wood. Hone has some lower body life for his size, ran the bases well and aggressively and had good feet on defense. He has a quick release at third base and playable arm strength. Good feel for the game.
