2004 Underclass National Showcase
Jared Lansford -- Lansford is the latest player from the fabled Lansford baseball clan in the San Francisco Bay Area and he’s a prospect his father and uncles can be proud of. Lansford is a strong, physically gifted junior who appears bigger than his listed 6-0, 180 lb size. Despite this, Lansford plays second base and plays it very well. He ran a couple of 4.3’s down to first from the right side to show his speed and his feet are quick and balanced on defense. The 7.23 on the slow track equates to at least 6.9 or better in normal conditions. Lansford has a very strong arm for a second baseman and he could easily move to third base in the future and be a strong defender there. He has a very polished advanced approach at the plate, with a good load, good balance and excellent bat speed. He keeps his hands inside the ball well and showed good power to right centerfield. Overall, Lansford has a very well balanced set of tools and plays at a high skill level. He’ll be someone to watch for many years to come. He could play in college right now.
